Terms of Service

1. What Dukes Swap is

Dukes Swap (“the Service”) is a marketplace and community board where students of Duquesne University can list, find, buy, sell, swap and give away items, and look for roommates. It is run by students and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Duquesne University.

2. Who can use it

You must have a valid @duq.edu email address and be at least 18 years old (or have parental consent). One account per person. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms.

3. We connect students; we are not part of the deal

Dukes Swap only provides the place to list and message. Every transaction is directly between the buyer and the seller. We do not own, inspect, store, ship, pay for or guarantee any item, and we are not a party to any sale, swap, payment or roommate arrangement. You decide what to buy, whom to meet, and what to pay. Use common sense: meet in public places on campus, inspect items before paying, and never send money in advance.

4. What you may not list or do

• Alcohol, tobacco, vapes, drugs, weapons, or anything illegal to sell or possess.
• University property, stolen goods, counterfeit items, prescription medication.
• Event tickets above face value, or anything that violates Duquesne policy.
• Subletting, renting or assigning campus housing, or any listing that violates a lease or the University housing contract. Roommate posts are for finding people, not for renting space.
• Services or content that are sexual, discriminatory, harassing, or that collect other students’ personal data.
• Spam, scams, fake listings, or impersonating another person.

Roommate posts must comply with fair-housing laws: describe yourself and what you’re looking for in a living situation, not preferences based on race, religion, national origin, disability or similar protected characteristics.

5. Your content

You own the photos and text you post. By posting, you give Dukes Swap a license to display them within the Service (including in emails and notifications to other students). Post only content you have the right to share. We may remove any listing or message at our discretion.

6. Payments and paid features

The Service is free for students. If we ever offer optional paid features (for example, featuring a listing), their price and terms will be shown before you pay, and payments will be processed by a third-party provider. Payments between students for items are made outside the Service.

7. No warranty, limited liability

The Service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dukes Swap and the people who run it are not liable for any loss, injury, damage, dispute or disappointment arising from a transaction, a meeting, a roommate arrangement, or your use of the Service. Our total liability to you is limited to $100.

8. Reporting and enforcement

Use the Report button on any listing to flag problems. We review reports, may hide listings or suspend accounts, and may cooperate with Duquesne University or law enforcement where required.

9. Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Continued use means you accept the changes. Questions: hello@dukesswap.com.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA.
